Polly Pocket Shrinking Back to Original Size

YIP YIP WOOOHAAAA!! Teeny little Polly Pockets! I used to admire Polly, but ever since the Mattel redesign, Polly seems more interested in shopping at Barneys than being a fairy princess. I loved the cute little portable playsets they had back in the 90's, but I didn't own any. Thankfully, I had enough other toys to make the absence of Polly less of a blow. The Water Park with its cute pink slide would have been a greatly loved addition, and I'm sure I would have filled it with real water and spilled it everywhere on a regular basis.

A line of 12 "Polly Wheels" sets bring back a Polly much closer to the original -- at least in size, which is reminiscent of the choking hazard days. The tiny drivers measure in at 1½" and the cars are approximately the size of a Matchbox. They're not quite as small as the original girls, which were under 1", but it's an improvement from the huge magnetic death-trap Pollies that have come out recently.

The car has the Polly logo on it not once, but THREE times. It's fairly well constructed and painted. There's even a clear loop to hold Polly into place and extra space for foot room. An opening door would have given the toy some extra pizazz, but the only movable piece is the wheels. The doll has one point of articulation in the waist, but she can't stay up even in a sitting position because of the mass of heavy hair on her head. She's too big for the old playsets and too small for the new ones, so aside from driving around in her car, there's not much else this doll can do. There's no male editions, so there isn't much hope of a drive-in movie date.

This is very nice, thank you for the article and it's information. Cazare Praid
