My Pretty Mermaids

I love doing these sort of articles, because there's practically nothing but one fan page and one sales page on My Pretty Mermaids. That means I get to do a lot of research and dip into the site funds for goodies. It also means I set the bar, and within a few weeks someone will have taken the images from my article, paraphrased most of what I wrote, and upload it onto their own page. Often I want to take advantage of this by posting totally bogus information like for example, saying that there was a rare line of mermaids that wore only tasseled pasties that was released just in the UK, and then seeing if that winds up on another site a few months down the line. It wouldn't surprise me.
Speaking of shit I make up that turns out to be set as fact, there's something I always wonder about. A while back, like in 2000 or so, I obtained a tape with an old Rainbow Brite episode on it where Murky's mother comes to visit. When doing tape trades I didn't know what to list the episode title as since titles weren't provided on the episode. I just jotted down the episode as "Mom" and traded copies away as usual. But now it seems either I have a great guessing ability, or someone took that phony name as fact, because episode 7 of Rainbow Brite is now called "Mom" in all internet episode guides, which doesn't really fit the style of the other episode names. Perhaps it's just an odd coincidence.

I have a My Pretty Ballerina doll from when I was little. Was there like a series of "My Pretty" things? Or is this totally a coincidence?

It's just a coincidence. My Pretty Ballerina was released by a different toy company -- Tyco.

I got one Rainbow My Pretty Mermaid when I was three and I am thrilled to find this article! (Mine is Sea Splasher, the one with pink hair in the middle section of the pic used in your article.) She was my fav bath toy. They had a lot of play value and durability - it's a shame that they didn't have more of a following.

I think I asked you about these a few months before you wrote the article. Thanks so much for writing about them...they were definately my favorite toy (besides My Little Ponies). It seems like they just disappeared out of thin air after like, 1994!

Holy crap, I had one of them! Waterlily or whatnot. I totally forgot about her, and now there's some portion of me wanting to go out and look for one to buy. *goes to check ebay*

I had one of these. She was a constant bath-time companion. But I could swear that there was a playset-- I remember having this small purple shell-bath that came with a pink fish that squirted water. Either it was made for these dolls, or a knock-off.

There were at least two playsets as far as I know, you had the bath time one! I'm working on gathering information about them for my ID site!
