Time for a sinus douche

A month or two ago Oprah reported on the Neti Pot and it's amazing abilities to help with allergies and sinus troubles. Since then the things have been nearly impossible to find, and so much as asking a CVS employee when they'll be restocked will cause them to fire an exploding arrow right into your heart. The Neti Pot has also gained internet fame through about 16,000 YouTube users uploading videos of themselves using one. Now I'm going to join the ranks.

I was skeptical about the neti pot doing anything to help my sinus problems, but my mother was absolutely insistent that if Oprah liked it, it must be THE cure-all solution. The issue I have with my sinuses is that there's some kind of mad blockage going on up there that causes me to only breathe through one nostril at a time. I really didn't think some salt water nose enema was going to clear that up. But, I agreed to try it and today the Neti Pot came my way. I mixed up the solution and ran the stuff through both sides of my nose. Took a few tries until I got the hang of it, but eventually I was pushing nasal Liquid Plumber through my nose like all the cool kids online. After it was all said and done, I still can only breathe through one nostril. Maybe I have to try a few dozen times before it'll clear out, but for now my head just feels funny.

My friend is obsessed with that thing, but the whole idea freaks me out. And it doesn't even work now, so I'm glad I didn't torture myself.

There's no way I would use this thing no matter how fucked up my sinuses are.

Um.....the human body only uses on nostril at a time....
"In humans the nasal cycle is the normal ultradian cycle of each nostril's blood vessels becoming engorged in swelling, then shrinking. During the course of a day they will switch over approximately every four hours or so. Meaning that only one nostril is used at any one time" - wiki

Maybe I didn't explain right.... I didn't so much mean I'm not breathing through both nostrils at once as much as I was trying to say one of my nostrils is always completely stuffed up. Like a nasal obstruction. When I did the nasal irrigations (I've done it twice now) I had to go back and forth on both sides with nothing coming out each time and it wasn't until the 3rd or 4th time that a slow trickle started coming out.

I know I'm reading this almost a month later, but it sounds like you might have a deviated septum. Have you been to the doctor for a proper diagnosis? I have the worst sinuses ever, but luckily I can usually breathe out of both nostrils. I cannot stand a stopped-up nose and it would drive me crazy if it were like that all the time.
