Say "hi" to my Big Wheel

I was scanning old catalog pages today to add some new pictures to some old pages (Hugga Bunch, Wuzzles, Glo Friends, etc) and this catalog happened to feature my old Big Wheel. It was a fully decked out Cabbage Patch Kids Big Wheel complete with flower decals, cabbage emblem, and a storage basket in the back perfect for toting around My Little Ponies and little boxes of Barnum's Animal Crackers.
When I was little, I lived in a row home in a fairly nice neighborhood in Allentown. But my block was SLANTED. Very slanted. One day I got it in my head that I should climb up to the top of the next block and drive my Big Wheel down the street. I walked it up to the top, hopped on, kicked off and stuck my feet all the way out and let the fucker fly down on momentum. The pedals were flying like crazy, too fast for me to get my feet on, and I didn't understand how to brake, anyway. I tried stopping with my feet but the sidewalk just burned and scratched them. So I just flew and flew down about 3 blocks until I eventually hit the tire of a parked car at the back of the YMCA.
Was a good run.

What a cool bike my little girl would love it. Great story your blogs always have great humor! You bring me back to my childhood memories too. I loved cabbage patch,my little ponies, sweet secrets...

I never had a big wheels (I know... i should sue my mom lol) but i had plenty of friends who did. i remember if you pedaled fast enough when starting off, you could make the big wheel spin before you took off! just like in the movies where the car/motorcycle kicked up dirt before taking off. freaking awesome!

I had a Dukes of Hazzard big wheel, and man, did I wear that fucker out! The big wheel itself got so cracked that it began to sink in and soon I had a permanent plastic flat tire! I always wondered why bike shops never fixed big wheels! Anyway, great memory!

oh maaan! I had that EXACT ONE! I had to share mine with my sis tho- she lost the seat thing and you ended up having to ride in such a way so you didn't slide off the back...
Evenr wen the front wheel got a "flat" we still played with it- I disticntly remember flipping it over and pretending the front wheel was an "Ice Cream Maker" and you would pick your" flavor from the triangle sticker on the wheel, and you had to spin the wheel to make the Ice Cream!!
geez. we were crazy.

This is so cute. I remember my daughter when she was 4 years old. She cried out loud in the mall because she wanted a bike like this.

OMG!!!! there's not a year that goes by without someone telling me I have cheeks that remind them of the CPKs! I never owned one and although I always want to buy one I can never decide which one. I was watching tv last night and saw a kids toys commercial and saw a bike and out of nowhere I remembered my CPK BIG WHEEL bike from 1986!!!!! how could I have forgotten!!! ever since last night I've been looking online looking for a picture of it! OMG did I have adventures on that bike! I rode it until the front wheel split in half!!! It was like having a picture of me in the front of the bike where the cabbage kid is displayed. I'm sooooo ready to find a way to buy it again (I don't have kids) but it's something that brings back so many memories and I must have it. This one on the picture looks a little different but I found the exact one I had (which is probably what you cruised with
