I could have been Soup.

I've been webmasterin' for 10-11 years now, on about 8 or 9 different places throughout that time. I really wish I had a proper anniversary. All the dot coms nowadays know their exact date of their start, but I'm clueless, because that's not something you really record when you're in middle school opening up a GeoCities account. That's too far back for even the internet archive to remember. Via one account that's still active and the "last modified" date on some old floppies I know a LOT went down the summer of '97, but the earliest I can track back is January of '96. That means things I was newly into then are proper nostalgia now. It's a little weird.
Other webmasters have their abundance of popularity, but all I have is the self-satisfaction that I've been doing this longer than any of them, although at 1/10,000 of the capacity. But, this also means there's a lot of horrible things from when I was 14 floating around the internet and several years of high school LiveJournal entries. If you find any of them, congratulations. You now know that I got a Snoopy Sno Cone Maker, a Magic 8 Ball, and a Popple for Christmas in '01. Let the blackmail ensue!
There's one thing about my life as a webmaster that I'll probably regret until the end of my days. See, I'm not so great at naming things. When someone asked me what I'd name my children (If I have any) I told them "Sakura and Damien." Thus far my site names have been completely shitty and just sort of settled on. But, many years ago before the cyber squatting epidemic, I could have changed everything. I could have been Soup. It was brought to my attention in 2000 through one of my boyfriend's friends that no one seemed to own soup.com. Now it'll take you to the home of Knorr soups, but then -- a "not found" page. Back then I wasn't a dot com yet, and although I thought owning soup.com seemed like a great idea, I just never got around to doing it. It made sense. I really like Talk Soup, at least when John Henson hosted, and Soup seemed like a decent name for a web site.
Instead I wound up Mystie's Place in '02 and Crown Combo in '06. Every day I have to kick myself firmly in the ass thinking of what could have been. I could have been Soup!!

I think I know what you mean, my first Usenet message was on Feb 3 1995.
I was playing around with Archie in 1994, not knowing what the hell it was.
My first website was created in 1999, and was about breaking in the movies as an extra.
Good times!
