Vinyl ahoy
It's been a busy week, and despite having bought Gremlins on DVD on Monday, I've still only made it about 20 minutes into watching it as of today. I've spent most of my evenings with friends instead of blogging about muffins, Play-Doh, and dinosaur sandwiches like I should be. I've been craving distraction lately for reasons I won't delve into. But somehow between karaoke, buying my guy friend sympathy pizza, and having deep discussions about brazillian waxing and Luke Skywalker at Starbucks, I still managed to find time to rig a new toy up to my computer.

I finally broke down and bought a USB turntable. Had the damnedest time getting it hooked up, because it kept asking for drivers that weren't available. Eventually I managed to ghetto-rig it by plugging the sound cables into my capture card. I'm just all kinds of problem-solving like that. I took a listen to the Hugga Bunch LP for the first time and holy shit, is it the worst crap I've ever heard. I could use that record to torture people in the worst way, because after you thought it was over with side 1, side 2 will have you trying to scratch your own eardrums out. It's bad. Bad bad.
But if anyone has suggestions of cool old records I should convert to mp3s (preferably odd 80s kids stuff), hit me up!

That is a totally awesome toy. I'm way jealous. As for weird 80s kid music, the only thing that comes to mind is this song called "Doin' the Barbie" by Barbie and the Rockers, but I don't think that was ever in a vinyl format since it was on a cassette that was packaged with the dolls. So yeah, that probably doesn't help much.

Mickey's Mousercize was one of my favorite when I was little. Very 80s.

I have a regular turntable because I buy LP's like they are crack. I am a record store whore. I have some crazy 80's LPs laying around. I have John Denver and the Muppets Camefire Songs or something to that effect. I also have a Strawberry Shortcake Fitness LP, The Dark Crystal OST and the soundtrack to the Carebear's Movie but it's actually the whole movie on vinyl (dialog and all)... it's really bizarre... but I also have Deerhoof, Boris, Tom Waits, David Bowie, Enon and other junk. Real records.

I loved the Mini pops as a kid, ever since I found their cassette at the dollar store. I lost it soon afterwards (or rather, I believe a friend stole it). Not too long ago, I came upon a record of the Minipops in the thrift store! Minipops, for those who don't know, is basically a semi-failed version of the Mickey Mouse club except younger and a lot of unintentional sexuality. Youtube them sometime.
