Top of the mini muffin to you

I always find my bi-weekly trip to the grocery store to be a mini-adventure of sorts. Since I go to the Wal-Mart Supercenter, there's always a trip to the toy department involved before heading off to the cereal aisle to stare at a box of Cap'n Crunch Treasure Hunt cereal and mentally battle myself over whether or not it's going in the cart. Since it stayed on the shelf, I then proceed to wonder at exactly which point in my life I stopped craving Chef Boyardee and instead started making whole grain penne with vodka sauce.

In my most recent trip I picked up a box of Eggo's new mini Muffin Tops in chocolate chip. They had to be purchased due to the Seinfeld episode in which Elaine causes Mr. Lippman to start a business making muffin tops and they attempt to send the ripped off stumps to the homeless. I had to know if Eggo was disposing of millions of mini muffin stumps.

The muffins are together in the same form as the mini waffles, 4 of them stuck together in a square. They're not even close to what's pictured on the box, which displays thick, luscious, fluffy tops of muffins. Really, they're more like thicker pancakes than anything. From the flattened bottoms you can tell they're making just the muffin top, and not the whole muffin. This does not, however, prevent them from being quite delicious. They have a perfect balance of a lightly toasted outside and a soft warm center. I'd buy them again, but I wouldn't be too disappointed if they disappeared from shelves.
