Green Tea Chocolate
It's not yet 8a.m. and I'm eating a chocolate bar. Why? Because Mr. monthly visitor is here, and he decided to arrive 4 days early to get chocolate. He seems to be making a pattern of this. My little bag of M&Ms has been incrementally disappearing over the past few days. Right now, he wants a Hershey bar.
And for the record, I currently need to leave for work in about 20 minutes and I'm absolutely blogging this naked.
This is the green tea bar I bought at the Hershey Store in NYC. Don't ask me what it says, I can't even tell if it's Japanese or Chinese. The only kanji I know is the one on my back, because it's one I've loved since I hear Mimu say "yume" at the end of the anime Idol Project many, many years ago. I know it's a green tea bar only because the sign said so.

I was a little worried about this candy. Foreign food raises many eyebrows with me, probably because I was raised with a pretty bland PA Dutch palate. But I'm all for combining things that usually don't go together and seeing what happens. I have a friend that's half-Japanese and half-Caucasian and follows a Shaman/Druid/Wiccan path, and I think it's inspired that she can meld all that together. If I melded my origins and paths, I'm pretty sure society as a whole would shit on me for saying I'm a Protestant Witch.
However, green tea and chocolate will surely not shit on anyone. In fact, it's blended together quite nicely. The tea is a little grainy, not as much as a Reese's Cup, but enough to be noticeable. It's a rich green like pea green. There's a distinct cultural difference in the flavor, it's not like the normal caramel or peanut butter fillings we're used to. It feels more refined, but with that classic taste of Hershey chocolate.
Bangarang!

Well it's definitely in Chinese.. I wouldn't be too terribly worried about foreign candy from China or Taiwan. Korean and Mexican stuff is not so good though. I find both to be really stale and sorta flavorless. Unless you count spicy as a flavor. Which I know you certainly don't. I have had a lot of different Mexican candies and haven't liked one yet. I DO like Mexican sodas though. I am sad that they finally added corn syrup to their Coke in Mex. I don't buy it nearly as often now. I also like buying tamales off the side of the road on the way to the tourist trap that is La Bufadora. Korean food is awesome... but for some reason their candy is just always stale and tasteless. I do like these drumstick style cones that are chocolate and pistachio though... pistachio ice cream with chocolate sauce and pistachio chunks on top. Next time I am in an Asian grocery store I will look for some of these Chinese marshmallows that are filled with cocoa stuff and send them your way. They are ultra yummy! And hey! You like the Japanese candy I have sent you. So you aren't too scared of foreign candy! Boring Dutch PA palate be damned!
