Ewok-ing Around the Christmas Tree
I can't believe it's already December 20th. I've been anxiously awaiting Christmas, but now that it's almost here I wish I had more time. I haven't even written out my Christmas Cards yet because I haven't gotten the results from my exam back and I need to know if my return address is going to say "Victoria M Whitby" or "Victoria M Whitby, CPC." I won't be denied my right to put initials behind my name and pretend I'm important because of it.
I'm trying to crack down now and make with the holiday webstuffs but when I reached over to grab the Ewoks Winter Fun book that has been sitting next to my bed for a year and a half, it was suddenly gone. I'm sure it's lost in a sea of Trace & Color books and Panini Sticker Albums by now. Now that I think of it, I recall buying A Charlie Brown Christmas View Master reels in the summer that I could probably fill up blog-space with. I think a raiding of the garage might be in order.
Thankfully, though, I had the '85 Wards catalog nearby and was able to compensate with an original and authentic Christmas photo with Ewok plushies. These cuties came out in the height of the Ewoks animated series and cashed in on their cute "teddy bear" style at about $26 a pop. 23 years later and buying one mint on eBay will cost you about the same. I like to think that old mint in box toys on eBay come directly from people who, growing up, were always told by their parents not to open certain toys because they were "collectibles." It makes me feel triumphant when I buy them and feverishly tear open the boxes as if I'm stealing their toy virginity. Raping old toy packaging really does it for me.
I was never a Star Wars fan growing up, but the fandom has always intrigued me. I love when a fandom spreads so far that it's merch stretches beyond t-shirts and coffee mugs into the realm of flip watches and condoms. Maybe that's why I can't get behind Clone Wars -- there's nothing cute and cuddly for me to cling to. This Christmas they should bring on more toys that are fuzzy as an Ewok and not shiny as a Droid.

I'm rooting for the presence of a CPC after your name. I can't wait to see it.
Man, I gotta track down some of these old catalogs. There are some serious good times to be found in those things. I'm envious you have a whole garage of this stuff. I'm going to have to raid my old toy boxes at my mom's house for some blog fodder soon.
I've always been more into the shiny droid stuff more than the cuddly aspect. I'm a sucker for a badass robot. And I actually really do like The Clone Wars series, although it seems I am in the minority.
I think my fave up there is Ewok "F" on the far left. He's got kind of a spunky superhero vibe going on.

Speaking of Star Wars, I finally got to see a bootleg copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special on DVD.
Yes, it's even more painful than I thought it would be. If you haven't seen it, I would be very pleased to give it to you! It comes with a full episode of the Muppet Show staring the Star Wars Gang, and other selected shorts.
Merry Christmas!
Albert
